How to request deletion
- Email [email protected] with the subject “Delete my ViceLedger account”.
- Say how you sign in: Google, Apple or Guest, and identify the account:
- Google or Apple: send the email from the address on that account. That is enough for us to find it; adding your account UID helps but is not required. If you use Apple's “Hide My Email”, tell us, and we will confirm another way.
- Guest: include your account UID. A guest account has no email address, so the UID is the only way we can find it.
We will confirm that we received your request, may ask a question to make sure the account is yours, and will complete the deletion within 30 days after we verify it. We will email you when it is done. Until in-game deletion ships, we carry out each deletion by hand.
Where to find your account UID
Your account UID is the ID that identifies your account. Accounts are not in the game yet; when sign-in ships, the game will show your UID in its account settings, and this page will say exactly where.
If you can no longer open a guest account (for example, after clearing your browser data), we cannot identify it. We plan to delete guest accounts with no sign-in for 12 months automatically, with their game data, so that a lost guest account is not kept forever. That clean-up is not running yet.
In-game deletion is planned. A delete option inside the game will let you delete your account directly once accounts are available in the game. This page will be updated when it ships.
What we delete
- Your sign-in account in Firebase, with your email address and name if we had them.
- Your character, display name, inventory, in-game currency and any other game data tied to your account.
- Your support emails, unless you ask us to keep them or we must keep them for a legal reason.
What we keep
- Economy ledger entries that other players' balances depend on, such as a trade you completed with someone. We keep them with your identity removed, so the economy stays consistent for everyone else.
- Security and server logs, including IP addresses, until the oldest entries are deleted to make room for new ones. The logs have a size limit but no time limit yet. TODO — retention limit
- Backups and recovery copies made before the deletion. We do not edit them to remove a single account; your data leaves them as they expire:
- Nightly backups of the game database: deleted after 30 days.
- Daily snapshots of the server disks: deleted after 7 days.
- A copy of the game database made just before each server update: we keep the two most recent, and an older copy is deleted when a newer update is installed, so how long a copy stays depends on how often we update the server.
- Disk snapshots taken before a change to the server setup or when a server disk is retired, and a database set aside when we undo an update: nothing deletes these automatically yet. We delete them by hand once they are no longer needed to recover the service. TODO — retention limit
- A record of the deletion: your account UID and the date, until no backup or recovery copy made before the deletion remains, so that we can repeat the deletion after a restore.
- Anything the law requires us to keep, for as long as it requires.
Before you delete
- Deletion is permanent. We cannot restore the account, its items or its currency.
- In-game items and currency have no real-money value, and nothing is refunded or paid out.
- Deleting your ViceLedger account does not remove ViceLedger from your Google or Apple settings. You can disconnect it there: Google Account → Security → Your connections to third-party apps and services, or Settings → your name → Sign in with Apple on an Apple device.
